CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A man was displaced from his home after a fire in Chesapeake early Friday morning.

The fire sparked just before 1 a.m. in the 1800 block of Carrollwood Common in the Greenbrier section of the city. Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said firefighters found flames coming from the back of the two-story townhouse when they arrived.

It took about half an hour to get the fire under control. Saunders said the resident was asleep when the fire sparked, but was alerted by a working smoke detector and was able to get out. No one was injured.

The cause remains under investigation.
