Two-story home catches fire in JCC

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – The cause of a fire in James City County is still under investigation.

The fire sparked around 3 a.m. in Kingsmill on Hampton Key in the county Tuesday. 16 fire and EMS units from James City County and Williamsburg arrived to find heavy fire showing from the gable end of the attic over the garage.

Inside, firefighters came upon heavy fire and smoke in the attic area. The fire was declared under control at 3:30 a.m. and crews remained on scene for two more hours conducting overhaul operations.

Officials said the home suffered extensive heat damage to the attic and moderate heat damage to the roof and gable. The second floor of the home also suffered moderate water damage.

No injuries were reported to firefighters.

Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
