HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads Transit has delayed the start of fare increases for bus, rail, ferry and para-transit until October.
Fares were scheduled to increase in two phases, starting in July, but now the first phase will begin October 6, according to HRT spokesman Tom Holden.
“It is not a simple thing to do to make fare changes to include re-programming the vending machine and fare boxes,” Holden said.
He said there were technical obstacles in meeting the July date: “There were some technical things that they rely on a contractor for and the wait was longer than they anticipated. They have to get this done before they can make the rate change.”
Right now, a cash, one-time pass for the bus, the Tide, and the ferry is $1.50. Starting Oct. 6, it will rise to $1.75. Then in 2016, it will go up again to $2.
The fare increase scale is similar for seven-day and 30-day passes — check out the entire fare increase list and schedule by clicking here.
HRT fares are set to increase Oct. 6th. Please see the attached chart for fare media changes…. http://t.co/iHKPxtAGIi
