Two dead in crash with lumber truck

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Two people died in a crash in Camden County Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Route 17 near the intersection with Main Street in South Mills, according to Jerry Newell with Pasquotank-Camden EMS.

A minivan was traveling on Main Street when the driver failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of a lumber truck traveling north on Route 17, Sgt. M.W. King with the North Carolina Highway Patrol told WAVY.com.

Both people in the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene. Charlie Herman Burrus, 65, of Corapeake, N.C. was identified as the driver, and King said the other victim’s family has not been notified at this time.

The truck driver was taken to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in good condition.

No charges will be filed.
