When I say it is infested, it is very infested, Tirrah Evans said. “I don’t want them in my house. I don’t even want them in my yard. I keep my house nice and clean. I don’t want to live like this.

Rats don’t scare me, but the diseases they carry do, added neighbor Barry Fernandez.

The rats are everywhere and they are no longer confined to the house where they’re livingLast Thursday, neighbor Kelly Parrish’s car wouldn’t start, and $160 later the mechanic fixed the problem.

“That afternoon when he repaired the vehicle he told me it was from chewed wires that were under the car,” Parrish said. “He told me something crawled up into the engine and chewed wires.

City officials say they received a complaint about the house on April 21. An inspector went out the next day and quickly determined there was a rat problem. The owner of the home has been cited and has 30 days to get rid of the rats. The owner told WAVY.com an exterminator is already working on it.

You can count on 10 On Your Side to keep to let you know what then happens.
