Driver in fatal crash charged with DUI second offense

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say a pedestrian was killed at the Oceanfront Sunday evening by a vehicle with an intoxicated driver.

Around 9:20 p.m., Virginia Beach police and fire-rescue crews responded to vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 1700 block of Pacific Avenue, according to Lonnie Cain with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

Crews found 50-year-old Jim Ira Miller, Jr. of Virginia Beach injured at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Cain said Miller’s injuries were the result of being struck by a vehicle operated by 29-year-old Peter Olin Teneyck of Virginia Beach. He was charged with DUI 2nd offense and involuntary manslaughter as a result of DUI.

Teneyck was taken to the Virginia Beach Correctional facility, where he is being held without bond.
