Airlines rake in billions from baggage fees

(CNN) – Those baggage fees are adding up to big bucks for airlines.

In 2013, airlines raked in more than $3 billion from baggage fees alone.

That’s according to new numbers from The Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The agency reports Delta earned the most money from baggage fees last year, $833 million, followed by United Airlines, US Airways, American Airlines and Spirit Airlines.

The Bureau reports reservation fees were also a big money maker for airlines last year, earning them another $2.8 billion.
