NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – If you saw police activity around MacArthur Center overnight, there was no need to be alarmed – it was just a training exercise.

Local police departments across the area joined the FBI and Homeland Security for the exercise. It started at 10 p.m. Saturday and ran until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Most of the activity took place inside the mall.

The goal of the exercise was to make sure first responders are ready for critical incidents and threats that could hit urban environments.
