Rabid baby fox prompts warning from Peninsula Health District

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Officials with the Peninsula Health District are warning residents about a case of rabies in Newport News after a resident took a sick fox into their home.

According to the Peninsula Health District, a baby fox tested positive for the rabies virus. It was found in the area of Madison Lane South and Draper Lane.

The Peninsula Health District said, in a news release, a citizen took the fox into their home when it appeared injured. The animal became ill after several days, and was euthanized and tested positive for rabies.

The District said all the family members involved are now undergoing post-exposure treatment for rabies.
