NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man is recovering after an early morning shooting Friday in Newport News.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said officers were called to the 600 block of 18th Street around 2:45 a.m. to investigate a shooting. Police found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
The victim told police he was walking along Ivy Avenue towards 16th Street when he saw a dark-colored sedan headed east on 16th Street. The victim said someone in the vehicle fired at least five rounds from a backseat driver’s side window.
Eley said the victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police do not have any information about a motive or suspect at this time.
Eley said the investigation is ongoing.
