PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Flames shot from a two-story building in Portsmouth early Friday morning.

Chief Mike Stockton with the Portsmouth Fire Department told the workshop/apartment was found to be heavily involved in fire when firefighters arrived on the scene in the 300 block of Dinwiddie Street. Dispatchers said the fire was called in around 1:30 a.m.

The fire was contained to the building and did not spread to any nearby structures. An adjacent garage did suffer some heat damage, Stockton said.

No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation at this time.
