KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) – Police have arrested a burglary suspect after officers say they found his driver’s license in a ventilation shaft Thursday.

Capt. Mark Evans with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department said officers were dispatched to the Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant Thursday for a report of a breaking and entering discovered by employees. Surveillance captured the incident, which officers reviewed.

The surveillance showed the suspect drop from the ceiling into the kitchen and steal items including a cash register drawer.

While inside, detectives found the suspect got into the restaurant through a ventilation shaft on the roof, Evans said. Near the shaft they found driver’s license belonging to a person who looked like the suspect on surveillance.

An arrest warrant for the suspect, Royce Thad Young, Jr. of Kill Devil Hills, was issued. During the execution of a search warrant on his home, Evans said Young fled on foot but was captured after a short chase. Inside the home, officers found the stolen cash register drawer and other items taken from the restaurant as well as cocaine, oxycodone and drug paraphernalia.

Young, 25, was charged with felonious breaking and entering, possession of stolen property and injury to real property. The Dare County Sheriff’s Office also charged him in relation to the search warrant. He was granted a bond of $200,000, but it is unknown at this time if he posted that bond.

Additionally, two other suspects were arrested and charged in connection to the search warrant. Morgan Whitney Folaros, 28, of Kill Devil Hills and Anthony Todd Faulkner, 21, of Kill Devil Hills, were charged with drug offenses.
