NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The man who stabbed a couple he was living with in October will spend 50 years behind bars.
Jessie Bishop was convicted of two counts of malicious wounding and two counts of abduction after pleading guilty in February. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, for the crimes, according to Amanda Howie with the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Bishop was homeless when, Charles and Roberta Howe say they took him in. Police say Bishop got into an altercation with the couple in their home when they refused to surrender an ATM and Visa card. He wielded a knife, slashing and stabbing the Howes; Bishop cut both of their necks.
WAVY News’ Ava Hurdle spoke with the couple after the hearing in February. They say they were first beaten with a stick, then stabbed.
