Pit bull shot in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police are investigating a report of someone shooting a pit bull that was chasing people.

Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department told WAVY.com officers received a call around 10:30 a.m. for a report of a person with a weapon along Hale Street. The complainant told dispatchers “a man shot a dog who was chasing people.”

Officers found the injured pit bull. The dog’s owners took it to the animal hospital for treatment and learned a bullet was lodged in one of the dog’s bones. The dog is expected to be okay after undergoing surgery.

Parker-Chesson said officers spoke to witnesses who saw the dog, but a suspect was not located or scene. Officers left the area about a half hour after they arrived.
