Felon charged in several burglaries

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Several burglary cases in Southampton County have been closed after a suspect was arrested.

Maj. Gene Drewery with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies executed a search warrant for recovering stolen property Monday in the 28000 block of Little Texas Road in the Branchville section of the county.

As a result of the search warrant, deputies were able to clear the following burglary and larceny cases:

  • Aug. 30, 2013 – Burglary at J.T. Barham
  • Jan. 11, 2014 – Burglary in 26000 block of Old Church Road
  • Feb. 5, 2014 – Larceny in 15000 block of Pinopolis Road
  • Feb. 27, 2014 – burglary in 27000 block of Old Church Road

James William Thomas III of the 28000 block of Little Texas Road has been charged with three counts bof burglary, three counts of grand larceny, two counts of credit card theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Thomas was also charged in a Franklin burglary after being caught in the act at a coin shop.
