SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) — America didn’t save Hampton Roads’ Bria Kelly from elimination on “The Voice” Tuesday night. After becoming one of the show’s Top 10 performers, the 18-year-old will pack her bags and head home to Smithfield.
Kelly performed a rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” on Monday night’s live show. The ballad showed her ability to use her powerhouse vocals in a strategically “delicate and vulnerable” way, according to her coach and mentor Usher.
While still garnering a significant amount of praise from the judges, Kelly received more criticism than’s she’s used to. Adam Levine, in particular, said he didn’t feel she was as connected with the performance as in the past. Usher, on the other hand, said it was exactly the kind of performance to get her to the next round of the competition.
During the live results show Tuesday night, the three artists with the lowest number of votes were eligible for the “Instant Save.” The artists each performed a new song, and then America voted for their favorite performer by tweeting out #VoiceSave along with the artist’s name.
American chose to save Kat Perkins from Team Adam, sending Tess Hannah from Team Shakira and Kelly home.
I have no regrets. Going out with a bang alongside my best friend @TessHannahMusic. I love you, girl.
