NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Charges are pending after a school bus crash in Newport News Monday morning.

Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Warwick Boulevard near 72nd Street.

The bus was rear-ended by a black sedan and the sedan veered off and struck a tree. Two students were on the bus headed to Woodside High School.

One student complained she bumped her head. Her parents will take her to the hospital to be checked.

Eley said the driver of the sedan complained of her wrist hurting. She is also being taken to be checked out by family members. Charges are pending against the woman, Eley said.
