JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Lafayette High School was placed on what police called a “soft lockdown” Monday afternoon while officials dealt with a rumor of a student with a gun.
Around 12:15 p.m., school staff and the school resource officer talked with several students for about an hour before discovering there was no weapon, according to Major Stephen Rubino with the James City County Police Department.
Rubino said the rumor involved a student having a gun at the school “and possible retaliation for a dispute” that happened between two students at the school on Friday.
A 14-year-old female student is accused of assaulting a security guard at school who intervened in the incident on Friday, according to Rubino. A petition is pending, charging her with assault and battery.
No one was injured during the incident.
