DALLAS, TX (WAVY) – While still playing for the Norfolk Admirals earlier this season, Devante Smith-Pelly said he wanted to “have an impact” on an NHL team. Boy did he ever, wearing an Anaheim Ducks jersey against the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.
The 21-year old left wing, who lead the Admirals in scoring while still in Norfolk, scored two goals in a 5-4 overtime win over the Dallas Stars. The second score tied the game at 4-4 with :25 seconds left to go in regulation. Smith Pelly’s two scores were the first postseason NHL goals of his career, and the win sent the Anaheim Ducks to the Western Conference semifinals.
Both scores came from virtually the same spot- just to the left of the net. His first of the night put his team on the board for the first time, though they still trailed 2-1 at that point in the second period. Smith-Pelly demonstrated some kind of patience on the second.
Just hovering over the net while both teams scrambled for the loose puck, Smith-Pelly waited and flicked it in to send the game into overtime.
