VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – 2,000 people marched in Virginia Beach Sunday morning to raise money for the March of Dimes. WAVY TV 10 is a proud sponsor of this year’s March for Babies.
Schools, clubs and corporate teams joined participating families on the boardwalk. Many of the families received help from the March of Dimes organization.
“I don’t have words to explain how amazing it is, just everything we went through, the emotional, the physical… It warms my heart to see people care about these babies,” said Lauren Parker, a mother who participated in Sunday’s event.
Parker’s son, Wesley, weighed only a pound when he was born. He now weighs 12 pounds.
There were two other March of Dimes walks in the Hampton Roads area Sunday, one on the Peninsula and another in Suffolk. Organizers said more than 1,000 people walked at Christopher Newport University, and about 600 people took part in the Suffolk event.
The three walks will raise almost $500,000 for research, education and prevention programs.
