NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police arrested a suspect Sunday in connection to a deadly shooting in Newport News.

Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said officers were called to the 13000 block of Sojourner Court around 10:20 p.m. Friday for a shooting. There, they found 41-year-old Vidal Lamont Sills suffering at least two gunshot wounds.

Sills was lying just outside the entrance to an apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eley said the preliminary investigation shows Sills was visiting residents of an apartment when another man, 23-year-old Joshua Johnson Caffey, joined the group. At some point, an argument ensued between the two, which they took outside.

Witnesses said Caffey shot Sills during the argument and fled the scene.

Police received a tip and located Caffey around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in a car on Colony Road. Eley said Caffey was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
