NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police officers have a man in custody after being dispatched to a local hospital Monday for a report of an assault victim.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said the 42-year-old female victim told officers she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend around 10 p.m. the night before. She said she went to his home on Deep Creek Road to end the relationship, but he got angry and physically assaulted her.
The woman said she lost consciousness during the assault and went to a hospital when she woke up. Eley said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers obtained warrants for abduction, impede blood flow, assault and battery, and obstruction of justice for 32-year-old William Henry Smith, Jr. He was arrested at his home and remains in the Newport News City Jail without bond, Eley said.
An Emergency Protective Order was also obtained.
