Portsmouth robbery suspect turns himself in

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police say the man who robbed a Portsmouth 7-Eleven store early Saturday morning turned himself in to authorities Tuesday.

Misty Holley with Portsmouth Police said 45-year-old Joseph C. McDaniels of Portsmouth has been charged with robbery and is in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office after turning himself in to detectives Tuesday morning.

Holley said the robbery happened in the 4000 block of George Washington Highway around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The suspect asked an employee for change for a $20 bill, then reached across the counter and  pointed a box cutter at the employee and ran off with the cash.
