YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A section of Interstate 64 East in York County was closed due to a person trapped inside an overturned vehicle Monday afternoon.
Sergeant Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police said the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. at mile marker 238. A 2011 white Kia Rio was traveling east when it sideswiped a ford pickup truck, lost control, ran off the road and overturned.
Anaya said the driver was trapped inside the Kia Rio until emergency crews arrived and were able to get the driver out. A helicopter landed just east of the scene and transported the driver to MVC, Richmond with serious injuries.
Anaya said the scene was cleared around 3:30 p.m.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
