Driver charged in police pursuit

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police have arrested a man following a pursuit that spanned two cities Sunday night.

Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department told WAVY.com the pursuit began around 10:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Victory Boulevard. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a no headlights violation, but the driver refused.

The pursuit went from Victory Boulevard to George Washington Highway and into the City of Chesapeake. Holley said it stopped in the 4700 block of South Military Highway in Chesapeake when the driver crashed.

The driver, identified as Jeffrey A. Webb, 28, of Elizabeth City was taken into custody and charged with felony eluding, possession of a controlled substance, possession with the intent to distribute and failing to illuminate headlights.

No one was injured in the incident.
