SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Suffolk woman is accused of physically abusing her son.

Officers arrested and charged 38-year-old Christine Williams-Porter with child abuse and cruelty and injuries to children.

The charges stem from an incident at her son’s elementary school on February 12. Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said the child told a nurse he was in pain and that he had been given medication that was not prescribed to him.

The child was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital and transferred to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters. Klink said investigators determined the child been physically assaulted by his mother.

Police were unable to locate Williams-Porter until April 17, when she was arrested.

Klink said the child is now being taken care of by other family members.
