HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police confirm protesters were taken into custody Friday after blocking a gate at Langley Air Force Base.

The protest occurred as about 200 airmen of the 94th Fighter Squadron returned to LAFB after an almost four-month deployment to Kadena Air Base, Japan. The group is the second-oldest fighter squadron in history.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said Steven Baggarly, 65, of Norfolk and Ardeth Platte, 78, of Baltimore, Md. were taken into custody and each charged for failure to walk on the left side of a roadway.

Shackelford indicated there were other individuals involved in the incident, who were not charged by Hampton Police. She referred WAVY.com to Langley Air Force Base officials for information “on the remaining individuals and charges.”

WAVY.com has reached out to LAFB, but has not received response on the matter, yet. Stay with us for updates as they become available.
