NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk police have arrested and charged a man in the homicide of Dorian Booker, who was shot early Friday morning.
Dustin George, 19, of Norfolk was arrested in Virginia Beach and charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department.
Parker-Chesson said officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Goff Street just before 1:30 a.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. There, they found 40-year-old Booker dead.
WAVY News’ Liz Palka spoke with Booker’s cousin, Felicia Gilliam, who said her whole family was at home at the time of the shooting. She was upstairs and said Booker was downstairs with the suspect. She said the family knows the suspect and told police his identity.
“It’s just a lot to take in,” Gilliam said. “Still unbelievable to see someone you love laying on the floor.”
Gilliam said her cousin was shot after an argument with the suspect. She said she heard Booker say to the suspect he wasn’t, ‘scared of that gun,’ and then she heard a shot.
Booker was close to his family and involved with his church, according to Gilliam. She said her family is grieving and hoping the gun violence will end.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide. Parker-Chesson said George is being held in the Norfolk City Jail.
