PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Law enforcement officers uncovered what they call an elaborate operation involving forgery, prostitution, prescription fraud and the sale and distribution of prescription medications.

According to Sheriff Randy Cartwright, 33-year-old Kristy Caro was making fraudulent prescriptions and conspired with many others throughout Northeastern North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia. Caro’s charges include trafficking, fraud, and conspiracy.

The Sheriff’s Office said the conspiracy is responsible for distributing well over 10,000 prescription pills to various people in Elizabeth City and surrounding areas — a street value of about $300, 000.

Cartwright said more arrests and seizures are expected. Stay with WAVY.com for updates in this developing story.
