VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach City officials are considering an offer to extend light rail to Town Center using funds provided up to 50 percent by the state.
City Council and Mayor Will Sessoms received the offer last week, which details conditions the city must agree to to get the $155 million:
- The city would pay the other $155 million for the project and any costs that run over that.
- The city would have to use the same technology for the light rail extension as is already in use for The Tide.
- The city could have to allow private groups to put in bids for the project, rather than create a public-private partnership.
City officials will review the offer and meet with state officials before coming to an official agreement on the offer.
