VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A suspect charged in connection to a homicide at a Virginia Beach hotel was the victim’s son, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office told WAVY.com Damien Michael Dukes, 27, was charged with second degree murder in the death of his mother, Victory Dukes. She was found dead at the Studios and Suites 4 Less Hotel on South Military Highway last week.
According to court documents obtained by WAVY.com, Damien Dukes called 911 and said he had killed his mother in a room at the hotel.
The woman died of blunt force trauma, police said. At the time of her death, police said the victim and suspect knew each other, but did not elaborate on their relationship.
Among the items seized from the room were two 20 pound dumbbells and two 10 pound dumbbells . Trash bags, a comforter, blanket and a handheld phone were also seized.
MPO James Cason with Virginia Beach Police said Dukes was arrested April 10.
