CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) — David Watford from Hampton may be the incumbent, but sophomore Greyson Lambert is giving Watford everything he can handle as Virginia coach Mike London evaluates his quarterback position.
“Greyson has done a heck of a job all spring,” Watford said. “I would not want it any other way, that’s only going to make me better and him better as well.”
Watford started all 12 games last season and threw 8 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions. Now a junior, Watford is expected to step up his game if he is going to win the starting job.
In Saturday’s spring game, Watford only completed 4 of his 14 pass attempts. Lambert on the other hand, was 18-of-31 for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
“From the start of spring until now, we’ve just tried to be consistent,” Lambert said. “We’ve had some ups and downs but we’ve been able to put some solid practices together.”
