NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY ) – With the attention always on the offense, the Old Dominion University defense stepped its game up in the annual Blue-White Spring football game on Saturday.
On a absolutely perfect spring day, not a cloud in the sky and very warm temperatures, ODU’s first-team defense kept quarterback Taylor Heinicke’s offense scoreless through the first quarter. In fact, the defensive unit sometimes made it difficult to cross midfield.
The offense first touched the scoreboard (as they usually do) in explosive fashion midway through the second quarter when redshirt-senior receiver Larry Pinkard snagged a Heinicke pass and dahsed 41 yards for the game’s first touchdown.
The white squad eventually got things going in the second half. Heinicke ended the game completing 23-of-36 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and the white team edged the blue team 21-14.
Pinkard lead the receivers with just two catches for 62 yards, and senior running back Cam Boyd lead the running backs with 24 yards on six carries.
