Police: Man tried to rob store in hospital mask

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Portsmouth Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery after a man wearing a hospital mask tried to enter a business on Airline Boulevard with a gun.

According to a police spokeswoman, around 9:30 a.m. Saturday a light skinned black male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and a hospital mask tried to gain entry to the Loan Max store in the 1000 block of Airline Boulevard.  The door was locked and the clerk did not let the man inside.

After failing to get in the store, the would-be robber ran off in an unknown direction

The clerk told to police the man was carrying a gun.
