VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The first police and fire station built in Virginia Beach is being put on the Virginia Beach Historical Register.
The building is located at 211 24th Street and is the 48th to be put on the register. It was constructed in 1924 and operated from 1925 to 1938 until a new, larger station Arctic Avenue. That newer station is no longer standing, city officials said.
In the 1950s, an addition to the 24th Street building was built on the south side to give more storefront appearance and is used for office and retail activities. In the 1970s, another addition was added to the north side.
In 2012, the Virginia Beach Professional Firefighters bought the building and has since made renovations to preserve the original part of the building.
