VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Perched on a hill over the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the Cavalier Hotel embodies the excess of the era during which it first opened its doors. But now, more than 85 years later, everything inside must go.

“It’s a huge garage sale with a little bit of organized flair to it,” said Frank Long of International Content Liquidation INC.

Long’s firm is putting everything inside the hotel on sale, beginning Thursday morning. The sale will continue for 18 days, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

There are armoires, microwaves, paintings, and much more. For those seeking a good night’s sleep, Long said this is the chance to find that perfect mattress and snag a great deal.

The sale comes nearly to the day of the Cavalier’s opening nearly a century ago.

“You can buy a complete pillow-top king-size bed for $200,” he said. “Where in the world are you going to do that?”

And for the first time, you can decorate your living room in the classic Cavalier wallpaper; rolls of it, in brand new condition, are waiting for a few good rooms.

“And they’ve been down in the basements for 30 years maybe longer,” Long said.

Other items included in the sale: guestroom furnishings, Pocahontas Restaurant furnishings, and patio furniture.

And with your purchase, you’ll take a piece of a storied structure that awaits rebirth. The old hotel is currently closed for renovation.

During its first chapter, the Cavalier housed no fewer than seven U.S. Presidents, and now it remains a rich inspiration of ghostly tales. But for Long, one final mission remains: “Make it all go away.”
