NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Tides catcher Caleb Joseph played a perfect game at the plate, but he didn’t get much timely help from his teammates. Joseph went 4-for-4 swinging the bat, had no runs batted in to show for it, and the home Tides fell to 1-2 with a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Knights.
Three Tides pitchers allowed one run each. Nick Addition allowed the tying run in the second, and Chris Jones allowed the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth.
Outfielder Henry Urrutia hit a sacrifice fly-ball to shallow left field in the first inning that scored the game’s first run, and Norfolk lead 1-0. The Knights tied the game in the third inning, then in the bottom of the fourth, Tides first baseman Chris Merrero blasted a solo home run out of left field that briefly gave Norfolk back the lead.
The Tides and Knights conclude their weekend series on Sunday, with first pitch expected at 1:05 pm.
