2 arrested in Edenton attempted armed robbery

EDENTON, N.C. (WAVY) – Edenton Police arrested two Newport News men Saturday night following an attempted armed robbery at a local restaurant.

According to a press release  from Edenton Police, around 10:30 p.m., 23-year-old Antoine Thomas tried to rob Famous Subs on N. Broad Street in Edenton. Witnesses told police they saw Thomas get in a green Pontiac driven by 24-year-old David Malcolm Sydnor.

Investigators put out an alert to law enforcement in the surrounding towns and counties to be on the lookout for the car. About an hour after the robbery, a car matching the description was pulled over by Pasquotank County deputies on Highway 17 near the county line.

Edenton Police responded to the car stop, where a handgun that was used in the attempted robbery was found inside the suspect’s vehicle. During the traffic stop, one of the suspects confessed to the crime.

Police charged Thomas with attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon. Sydnor was charged with aiding and abetting an attempted armed robbery. Both were being held at Chowan County Jail.  ant thomas (2)
