PD: Newport News man shot in groin area

Newport News shooting investigation

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police say a man may be fighting for his life after being shot near the groin Friday night.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4300 block of Madison Avenue, according to Holley McPherson with the NNPD. When officers arrived in the area, they found a 33-year-old Newport News man in the 600 block of 43rd Street who had been shot in the groin area.

Detectives say the victim was at an acquaintance’s residence when there was a knock at the door. The victim answered the door and was confronted by two males and at some point was shot during the encounter, McPherson said.

The victim’s injury initially did not appear to be life-threatening, but McPherson says now it seems possible his life could be at risk.

Detectives continue to investigate the motive for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
