Woman charged after crash causes jackknifed tractor-trailer

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A woman has been charged after crashing into a tractor trailer on Interstate 64 West Friday afternoon, and causing major traffic delays.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the two-vehicle crash happened around 12:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes, just east of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. A 2003 Camry traveling west swerved to avoid a piece of rubber in the road, lost control, ran off the road, over corrected and struck the tractor trailer head on.

The tractor trailer had also been traveling west and blocked all lanes of traffic for about an hour as a result of the crash.

Both drivers and a passenger of the Camry were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the Camry, Denice Jackson, was charged with reckless driving.
