SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Troopers have identified a woman who was killed after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 664 Thursday.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police said the crash happened just before 11 a.m. The tractor-trailer was stopped for a wide load crossing at the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel when a 2013 Toyota crashed into the back of it.

Pictures from the scene sent to WAVY.com showed the vehicle nearly entirely underneath the back of the trailer.

Anaya said the woman driving the Toyota, Darla A. Alexander of Chesapeake, died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

All northbound lanes were closed for about three hours, with traffic detoured onto College Drive to take motorists trying to get to the Peninsula to the James River Bridge on Route 17.

Around 12:15 p.m., Anaya told WAVY.com a second crash on Interstate 664 NB occurred at College Drive. The crash involved two vehicles and injuries were reported.
