Man shot in foot in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man was hit by a bullet as he was standing near a store Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of 27th Street. Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com officers found the 36-year-old victim lying on the ground when they arrived on scene. He had been shot in the foot.

The victim said he and other people were standing near the Quick Save when he heard several gunshots. Everyone scattered in different directions and he realized he had been hit.

He was taken to the hospital and his injury is non-life threatening, McPherson said.

There is no suspect information at this time, anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
