NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Former U.S. Senator John Warner got a look at a submarine with his name on it Thursday.
Warner visited Newport News Shipbuilding to see the progress on the Virginia-class attack submarine bearing his name. John Warner (SSN 785) has reached the level where hull sections have been attached, which means its hull sections are joined to form a water-tight unit.
The submarine is the only Virginia-class sub to bear the name of a person, according to a news release from Huntington Ingalls Industries.
