VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Investigators have ruled a death in the Lake Edward area of Virginia Beach this weekend as a homicide and have identified the victim.

Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of Red Horse Lane around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department. Neighbors told screams were heard coming from the home and a man’s body was found inside.

Cason said the victim was identified as 29-year-old Cyle Strahl of the 600 block of Red Horse Lane.

10 On Your Side talked to Maytee Anderson, who said Strahl worked for her at W.T. Anderson, a construction company: “As soon as we met him, we got along with him very well. Very charismatic, very enthusiastic. He seemed to be a good people person, so we immediately decided to give him the position of job site supervisor.”

Anderson said she last saw Strahl on Friday and called him Monday morning when he didn’t show up to work at his normal time.

“He wasn’t answering, and it was funny because it had only been 15 minutes past the time he usually would arrive, and even for the five weeks he was here, he was never late,” she said.

Strahl’s father Colin talked to 10 On Your Side by phone Friday and said his son was a loving person who always helped others.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said she was still in shock about Strahl’s death: “It’s unbelievable. News people are around here all the time, the police still keep coming by, the candles are lit, and I still can’t believe that he’s gone. You could count on him for anything.”

The woman said her daughter heard what sounded like gunshots on Saturday, but police have not said how Strahl died.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday in Pennsylvania.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
