Seven displaced from home after fire

HAMPTON, VA. (WAVY) — Careless cooking caused a residence in Hampton to go up in flames Monday evening, fire investigators say.

Hampton firefighters responded to the 400 block of Shenandoah Road at 4:36 p.m. to find a citizen trying to extinguish a house fire with a garden hose, according to Captain Jeffrey Pereira with the Hampton Fire Department.

It took crews twenty minutes to put out the flames.

No one was in the home when fire crews arrived and no one was injured. However, seven residents were displaced from the home due to fire damage. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents.

A fire investigator deemed the cause of the fire accidental.
