PD: Mom reaching for vacuum caused crash

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a young mother was reaching for something that fell on the floorboard when her husband veered off the road and into a pond.

Latasha Dubois died in the vehicle crash off Repass Beach Road in Suffolk last month. Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said a hand-held vacuum fell onto the driver’s side floorboard. Dubois reached over to retrieve it and grabbed the steering wheel when she sat back up.

Her husband and two toddlers were rescued by neighbors from the frigid water. The couple’s other two children were not in the car that night.

Latasha was 23-years-old.
