VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A two-vehicle crash on Princess Anne Road  killed one person and left another seriously injured Saturday morning.

According to a police spokesman, around 7:30 a.m. a pickup truck traveling north on Princess Anne Road near Jarvis Road veered off the road. When the woman driving the truck over-corrected, it crossed into the southbound lanes of Princess Anne Road  and hit another pickup truck head-on, causing one truck to catch fire.

A group of Good Samaritans managed to get the two vehicles apart and rescue the driver of the pickup truck that was traveling in the southbound lane. Medics airlifted the man, identified as an off-duty Virginia Beach firefighter, to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Medics pronounced the driver of the pickup that veered off the road dead at the scene. Police identified the woman as 62-year-old Katherine Margaret Allen, of Virginia Beach.

The factors that contributed to the crash are under investigation, according to a police spokesman.
