Witnesses alert deputies to sex crime against child

PASQUOTANK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Deputies have charged a man with inappropriately touching a child after a confrontation over the weekend.

According to Sheriff Randy Cartwright in Pasquotank County, deputies were on assignment at an event in a neighborhood called Morgan’s Corner Saturday around 8 p.m. when they saw the confrontation. Deputies said the suspect, 43-year-old Edward Imwald, Jr., removed a small child without permission from the child’s parents and took the child toward an area where a bus was parked.

There, Imwald inappropriately touched the child, Cartwright said. Others at the event intervened, causing the confrontation that caught the attention of the deputies.

According to court documents obtained by 10 On Your Side, there were two other victims involved int he incident. Imwald was also accused of encouraging a 17-year-old boy to drink liquor and grabbing another person by the face.

Imwald was charged with simple assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, indecent liberties with a minor and kidnapping. He is being held in jail on a $22,000 bond. No one answered the door at his home Friday afternoon.
