JCC man accused of defrauding bank

JAMES CITY COUNTY, VA. (WAVY) – A 40-year-old James City County Man is facing a slew of charges after police say he defrauded a bank of nearly $100,000.

Rajesh Attri is facing 36 felony charges:

  • Three counts ID theft
  • Credit card forgery
  • 16 counts passing bad checks
  • 16 counts fraud

According to James City County Police, Attri paid three women to make small cash deposits in order to open accounts at various SunTrust Bank locations under false names across Virginia between July 2013 and September 2013. Police say Attri then made numerous fraudulent deposits in the accounts and wrote bad checks knowing there wasn’t enough money to cover them.

The losses to SunTrust totaled more than $90,000.

The case remains under investigation.
