4 dogs found in hoarding case ready for adoption

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Four of the dogs found in a Hertford County animal hoarding case are ready for adoption.

60 Australian Shepherd dogs, including 13 puppies, were found on a property along Pine Tops Road. Sheriff Juan Vaughn told WAVY.com investigators were calling it a case of animal hoarding, rather than a puppy mill.

The Humane Society of the United States removed the dogs from the home. The Norfolk SPCA took in 11 dogs and the Virginia Beach SPCA took in 16, including seven puppies.

A Virginia Beach SPCA spokesperson told WAVY.com four of the Australian Shepherd dogs, Charlie, Wyatt, Chelsea and Basil, would be ready for adoption.

If you are looking to adopt, the shelter said a good fit would be someone with basic obedience training.

The puppies taken to Virginia Beach are in foster care and will remain there for another month or so, according to the VBSPCA.
